Betel Leaf is a perennial creeper plant in South East Asian countries especially in the Philippines. Betel leaf is famous among natives and indigenous people in most Asian countries because it is their main material for their betel chew or what we call the "Paan" in India or "Mama" in Filipino Language.
This buyo leaf or betel leaf is used to wrap nuts, spices and herbs to make "paan" or "mama". It is a tradition for locals to chew "mama". They are also branded by other experts as addicts to "mama". This equates to modern chewing gum which our young adults are addicted to.
Buyo has many benefits for health. Among locals, the first hand benefit is that it makes strong teeth. Although prolonged use can stain the teeth red, dark red, or black, but in return the teeth is healthy and strong with no cavity. Look at the photos below. They both have complete sets of teeth although they are stained red to black but they are still complete.
Aside from its benefit to healthy teeth, it also promotes good oral hygiene and prevents oral cancer. It contains antibacterial components that keeps the mouth clean and fresh breath. Buyo also has other health benefits mentioned below.

2. Infusion - the simplest herbal preparation. Put leaves in a cup or a glass, then pour hot water into the cup or glass. Drink similar to tea.
